The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) has a tremendous number of metrics; however, these metrics are vastly NOT considered “fitness criteria”. Please join Jack Caine in exploring which metrics in SAFe are fitness criteria, and which should be considered, instead, general health indicators or even vanity metrics.

Jack has 31 certifications and accreditations (collects them like merit badges), has been a CSM and CSPO since 2012 (currently is a CSP-SM, CSP-PO, and REP) and an SPC since 2014, and currently holds 17 instructor accreditations from Scaled Agile, Scrum Alliance, and IC Agile. Jack has taught many thousands of students in agile, lean, scrum, kanban, SAFe, design thinking, agile architecture, mob programming, etc.
Jack is a published author (7 workbooks available from Amazon) and the creator of 4 Scrum Alliance REP courses, including Kanban Fundamentals, Design Thinking Fundamentals, Agile Marketing Fundamentals, and Agile & Scrum Fundamentals. Jack co-authored the first article published by the Scrum Alliance on mob programming. Although not updated for a few years, Jack was also the creator of “Jack’s Agile Notebook”, a 1300+ slide deck (Google Slides) open to the public.
Jack was the creator of the first mentorship circle at the NYC Scrum User Group, the first mentee of Ron Jeffries at AgileMentoring.com, the founder of DFW Kanban Meetup Group, and has been a speaker at many user groups and conferences around the world.
Jack has coached in some of the largest organizations in the world, including Walmart, Motorola, Cisco, AT&T, Verizon, Verisk, Barclays, Amerisource Bergen, etc.
In addition to coaching and teaching, Jack has been in the following roles/jobs: Scrum Master, Production Manager, Project Manager, BA, QA, Developer.
Although Jack has worked in IT for over 20 years, his other claims to fame include being the father of two doctors (both sons married off), a graduate of UCLA with a B.S. in Biochemistry, previous overseas service as a US Army officer, founder of an inline hockey association in Costa Rica, experience as a technical sales representative and manager in the telecommunications, chemical, and environmental equipment industries, founder of dev centers off-shore, and founder of Carmel Rush Inc.
